Micro-needling, also known as “collagen induction therapy” (CIT), is a minimally invasive, non surgical procedure for skin rejuvenation. It involves working over the skin with a 12 point needle cartridge using a microneedling device to create a controlled injury to the skin, which, in turn, helps the skin to help itself.

Each fine needle creates a channel, or micro-wound to the epidermis or dermis (depending on needle depth setting). This controlled micro injury triggers the body to stimulate the wound healing response. Fibroblasts and growth factors are stimulated to fill these micro-wounds with new collagen and elastin.

There are various needling devices used, however here at RE:NU Clinic we prefer to use an electronic micro-needling device, the Dermapro.

The Dermapro is proven to provide less discomfort, with minimal to no downtime and provides greater results than a manual roller for example. The added advantage of the pen vs manual roller is that the depth of needle penetration can be altered during treatment, with increments from 0.1mm up to 2.0mm allowing multi layer accuracy. This enables us to provide a truly bespoke treatment plan to maximise results with minimum discomfort. The tip of the pen is small, allowing it to pass closer to the eyes and nose for a more effective treatment in those areas that are of great concern to many.

The Dermapro device has an infusion port which holds up to 2ml of product. This is perfect for the administration of Mesotherapy, as the 12 needle spring loaded cartridge delivers up to 82800 micro channels per minutes, allowing greater penetration of meso cocktail via thousands of micro channels compared to the standard way of injecting mesotherapy via a few manual needles.

Prior to treatment, a consultation will be carried out where we will discuss in detail the procedure, possible side effects and aftercare. At the time of treatment, a topical anaesthetic cream is applied. Once the area is numb, the cream is removed and the skin in disinfected and a protect and restore serum is applied. We then begin to needle the skin, using a single use, sterile needle cartridge. Following the microneedling treatment, the skin is cleansed using a gentle antiseptic cleanser and a soothing and calming face mask can be applied.

We recommend a course of 3- 6 treatments to reach desired results. This leads to a reduction of scarring and stimulates skin rejuvenation, with improved skin texture, firmness and pigmentation. Long term results and skin health are achieved by a course of micro-needling treatments, regular advanced clinical facials and accompanied by a preventative, corrective and protective skincare programme.
